A Snout for New Business
A local designer is celebrating taking her business to the next level with the help of the Creative Industries Regeneration Team (CIRT).
Emma Barker, owner of Snout Ltd, a collection of fashion and lifestyle products, has exhibited at the world’s largest gift and accessories show – Spring Fair 2006 at the Birmingham NEC.
CIRT, part of Business Link Leicestershire, provided help and support in planning and financial management, which prepared Snout to show at the trade event.
After establishing her successful e-commerce business –www.snoutthings.co.uk, designing and selling home and leisurewear in 2004, Emma felt it was time to expand a greater audience.
Emma had not previously explored targeting retail outlets before, but after receiving a £2,000 bursary from Creative LeicesterShire she contacted CIRT for advice and support on how to progress her business further.
"The help I received from CIRT has proved invaluable in progressing my business," says Emma. "After I received the bursary, I started to work with a CIRT adviser on a one to one basis. I had advice and support that prepared my business to approach retail outlets and exhibit my work at the Spring Fair."
Emma has attended monthly seminars that have helped her manage her customers and make the most of her website.
"CIRT have certainly hit the nail on the head when it comes to straightforward business advice for creatives," says Emma.
Now, after making several useful contacts at the Spring Fair, Emma is continuing to approach a diverse cross-section of retailers including mail order companies, high street independent outlets as well as other online boutiques.
